What can you see in "Styx“ painting by Mariusz Lewandowski?
The painting "Styx" by Mariusz Lewandowski depicts a mystical and symbolic scene. The painting shows a scene that immediately brings to mind the mythological Styx, the river that the dead had to cross to get to the underworld. At the center of the composition, a solitary figure in a boat is seen gliding across calm, reflective waters towards the flames illuminating the horizon. The space traversed by the boat is flanked by two monumental walls that rise towards the sky, creating a narrow, luminous corridor.
Above the scene, a crescent moon gently illuminates the surroundings, giving it an ethereal and almost supernatural character. The color palette transitions from cool, blue tones on the edges to warm, fiery hues at the center, symbolizing the passage from life to death, in line with Greek mythology where the River Styx separates the world of the living from the world of the dead.
This painting was featured on the cover of the album "The Last Cruise" by the band Yenisei.
